WTF did she just say?

It smells like it's DAY TWELVE

Sandra Priestley Season 2 Episode 167

Smell is one of the fastest ways to shift the energy in your space and your body.  Today I'm sharing the TWO things that I love to use, to create the environment that I want:

1) Essential Oils
2) Christmas Simmer Pot

In the episode I talk about the two scents that I use the most in addition to the benefits of the various essential groupings.  I also share my favourite simmer pot recipe and explain why it is SO powerful to shift the vibe of your space!

Christmas Simmer Pot
2-3 cinnamon sticks
1 orange, sliced
4-5 whole cloves
a sprig of rosemary
optional:  a bit of vanilla extract or a piece of star anise
Add all ingredients into a pot of water.  Bring to a boil and then lower to a simmer.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm so glad that you're here. You're listening to what the fuck did you just say? What your host that's me at the first place. I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in. I say random crazy gift, which is why I called this podcast the way that I did. And I really hate long drawn-out intros. So let's fucking go. Welcome back to day 12 of our podcast advent calendar. And I am going to talk to you today about smell. I think that, you know, if I look back, probably half the time, um, my house used to smell like, I don't know, hockey equipment and wet dog. Like for real, I'm sure that it did. But I think smell is one of those things that you can really use to your advantage. And so I love to use smell. Particularly, I'm a big huge diffuser fan, like essential oil fan. So I love to use the essential oils that help me get to the emotional support that I need or that I choose in that day. So I'm going to talk to you about essential oils first, sort of some basics. At the end of the podcast, I'm going to give you a recipe that you can use if you are not into essential oils or you don't have any. Okay. First things first, I think a lot of people can get really sort of overwhelmed by all of the essential oils that you have at your disposal. And we think in terms of like, I like this smell, so I'm going to use this smell, but they are used for different things. So citrus, so the citrus blends or like orange, lemon, grapefruit lime, citrus is like uplifting. It lifts your mood, it clears the mental fog. And one of my personal favorites is from Sage, S-A-J-E. It's a company out of Vancouver, Canada. Um, and it is called Liquid Sunshine. It's um a citrus blend. I love it. In fact, today I just got in my liquid sunshine essential oil hand soap from Sage. Like it is my very favorite all-time thing. And if you think in terms of like it is literally called liquid sunshine because it just makes you happy. Cinnamon is a warm, and I mean, this is not rocket science, right? Cinnamon is warming, it's grounding, and it's cozy, but it's also great for calling in abundance and it makes the house feel really welcoming and not sort of chaotic. Clove essential oil is really good for protective energy and it's really good for boundaries. So if you are someone who has struggles with saying no, clove energy sort of allows you that confidence and that like bubble of protection where you can stand, you can have those boundaries without sort of being argumentative. Pine or balsam fir, um, cedar wood, sandalwood, any of those sort of woodsy smells or woodsy essential oils, they are really, really good for grounding. And side note, one of the things that I love to do is we purchase a real tree every year off the lot, but like I don't know about you, but they don't smell like anything anymore. Like we used to purchase trees and they smelled like trees. Now they smell like dirt. I don't know. I don't know what the fuck happened. I think I'm gonna have to start to Clark Riswald it out and go and cut down a tree from now on. We're gonna have to do this. But if you love that smell and your tree also smells like dirt, or your tree smells like artificial, then just even getting some balsam fir or some pine essential oil and putting it like on a little piece of tissue or cotton ball and placing it in your tree is kind of like a good hack, but it does add that grounding aspect to your space too. So if I'm feeling anxiety, I will use a wood smell or like something like forest inhale from sage. And if I'm feeling a little down or a little tired, I'm gonna use the citrus. Like I pretty much go between those two sort of scents. Um, the other thing that I love is peppermint. Peppermint is like an energizing um smell as well, but not to the point where it gets you overstimulated. It's really good in the mid-afternoon. I don't really use it in the evening because I feel it's too energizing. Also, I don't use citrus in the evening either. Um I find that it keeps me awake. So those essential oils, you can either diffuse them or, like I said before, you can just like put a little few drops onto a cotton ball or a tissue or something around your space. You can put a couple of drops and peppermint oil onto a cotton ball and put them in the garbage can. Um, one of the things that I love to do is use lemon or orange essential oil. And I'll put a few drops in the um water when I'm washing the floor, and it just sort of adds like it just clears the space. It just feels so, so nice. Also, if you use doTERRA oils, um, they have an oil called wild orange. Wild orange is really good for abundance, so I love to use that essential oil as well. Now, if you don't like essential oils or you don't want to purchase essential oils, or you don't like diffusers, or I don't know, they're not for you. Here's another recipe that I absolutely love. It's a simmer pot recipe, and it is literally like the holiday version of cleansing your home's aura. Like if this is like the holiday version of burning sage in your house, it's cleansing, it's grounding, it's calm, it's cozy, and it provides abundance. So the mix is two to three. You grab a simmer pot. You can either like I just use like a plain old pot, like I have a small stainless steel pot, but they do have those really pretty glass simmer pots that you can get on Amazon or wherever. And they're really pretty to just have on the stove as well. But you can also get those like little crock pots, those little mini crock pots, plug it into the wall and have this burning all the time or running all the time. It's just lovely. So you throw some water in there, add in two to three cinnamon sticks, one orange that you have sliced, throw the slices in there, four to five cloves, a sprig of rosemary, which is also really grounding. If you don't have a sprig of rosemary, but you do have a fresh tree that you've just brought in, you can actually trim a little, like a little end of the branches off and throw the end of the tree into the pot. I'm not joking. I did that last year and it really, really worked. I just didn't have any rosemary on me. And so I ended up using a little, like a little tiny tip of one of the branches off of the tree. You can optionally add in a splash of vanilla if you want or a piece of sternise as well. I never have done that, but I think it would be lovely. I do love vanilla, but you put all of that in with some water, bring it to a low simmer, and you just let it simmer away and it smells amazing. But just think about that, like energetically, the cinnamon attracts abundance, the oranges uplift the chi and uplift your energy, the cloves bring protection and warmth, the rosemary is grounding and it clears old energy. And the vanilla adds softness and comfort. I mean, how perfect. It is like all of the oils all together in one beautiful pot. And it makes your house smell amazing, it lifts the chi, it makes you feel calm and cozy, and it absolutely changes the feel of your house. And when your house feels and smells great, everything shifts. Your house and your nervous system will absolutely thank you. Now go have an amazing day, and I will see you back here for day 13. Thank you so much for listening. I hope you've had some laughs, maybe some ideas, and that you've been inspired to take some type of action toward the life you've always dreamed of. If you feel so called, I would love it if you would share with your best days. Leave a review down below. I look forward to bringing you on the tool, and I will see you in the next episode.
