I'm so glad that you're here. You are listening to what the fuck did she just say with your host? That's me, sandra Priestly. I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in. I say random, crazy shit, which is why I called this podcast the way that I did, and I really hate long drawn out intros. So let's fucking go.

Speaker 1:

One of the biggest mistakes that I think entrepreneurs make when they're first starting to show up and before they have a team that works with them is trying to be on all social media platforms all the damn time. What ends up happening is either they reuse their content, but they don't shift the content enough to really be applicable to that certain platform. So, for example, something on TikTok is not necessarily going to translate as well to Facebook. Something on LinkedIn is not going to be great on Instagram. I mean, be great on Instagram. I mean we have to sort of tweak it. But the other thing, too, is that I think we spend so much time trying to be everywhere and we follow people like Mel Robbins, who has a presence on everything, right, sarah Blakely presence on everything but we forget that they have teams. So when you're starting out, don't emulate someone's business that has a team that does all of their social media. You're starting your business.

Speaker 1:

You have to focus on two things. Number one where do you like to get lost in scroll? If you like to get lost on Pinterest, I want you to think, is Pinterest my thing? Or if you like to get lost in the scroll on Instagram, and particularly, you're noticing you don't really look in the scroll as much as you look in the stories. What kind of stories are you pausing on? What kind of stories are you liking? What are you engaging with? Are you pausing on? What kind of stories are you liking? What are you engaging with?

Speaker 1:

If you, as a consumer, love Instagram stories and you love being able to engage in them you love the polls and things like that then ask yourself the next question Do I feel comfortable showing up here? Really, it's two questions when do I like to get lost in this role and do I feel comfortable showing up here Now? I mean, just because you don't feel comfortable showing up right now doesn't mean that you can't push yourself to show up there and sort of challenge yourself. But if you have a big fuck you block to it. I'm going to suggest we can either work through that or work around it, but working around it and choosing a different platform probably the quicker, faster option. And what I suggest is that we find the quickest, fastest option for you to start showing up, because action creates clarity. The more you act in that other platform, the more clarity you'll find, the more confidence you'll get, and maybe we'll then move to the second platform, if you so choose. The other thing that you have to think of, if I think to myself, where do I love to get lost in the scroll? Well, I love Facebook business pages, always have. I do like to get lost in the scroll on Instagram as well, but here's what I notice I don't like the grid.

I have spent so many years trying to fight off this need for perfectionism and I have all of these quotes that I really had to lean on sometimes, like done is better than perfect, because I would get something 90% done and then not ever launch it. Also, things like perfection is not inspiring, and so I mean I have really been leaning in and helping my clients to just really take a step and try and go forth and not worry about it being perfect, because if we hold off for perfect, we will never launch that business, we will never launch that course, we will never make a fucking dollar, or, if we do, we will be struggling because it always has to be perfect. Now, if you love perfection and you love to make everything exact and perfect and precise, you're going to be perfect and you feel good doing that. I think you should. The key is knowing yourself, but for me, I feel really stifled by having to have everything perfect, because it never will be, and so the thing that I like to do is show up imperfectly as often as I can show up imperfectly as often as I can.

Speaker 1:

What this means for me is that, even though I love to get lost in the scroll on Instagram, I don't love the grid. The grid to me, feels so stressful. It is like creating the magazine Vogue. I don't want to have to worry about everything matching. I don't want to have to worry about how often my picture is there and if I have too many of one side angle. I don't want to worry about the filter. I don't want to worry about the colors. I don't want to worry about what it looks like when people open up my Instagram and then scroll through and make sure it's all cohesive Like not at all. Am I interested in that?

Speaker 1:

I am watching online right now as a bunch of coaches are pissed that Instagram itself changed the sizing of the pictures and so now their pictures all look a little wonky, and they're pissed that now they have to go back and change all of their pictures and I'm like, oh my God, this is why I do not like Instagram. The fact that anyone would be stressed because their grid doesn't look perfect is the exact reason I shouldn't be there. I gotta tell you Now, instagram stories do I love them? Yes, the only problem is just, realistically, they're only there for 24 hours and they can't be seen by anyone other than followers. Right, so there's some strategy to that. But what I came here to say is this Instead of watching someone like Mel Robbins, who is on LinkedIn and TikTok and Instagram and YouTube and podcasts and Facebook, and feeling as though you have to emanate her, know that you don't.

Speaker 1:

Mel Robbins has a whole social media team. She's not posting her own shit, I'm guessing, and if you're just starting out, you don't have a social media team that can reuse your content and can shift it from one platform to the other, because it should sort of tweak a little bit, based on the platform itself. Go by these two rules. Where do you feel most comfortable and where do you get lost in the scroll girl? Figure out one, maybe two, but one for sure. One place you want to focus and go all in on that. Promote that, share that. Create a strategy where you can focus solely on that one place. Get so fucking comfortable. Share it, make that your place to be.

Speaker 1:

Once we get that lockdown, we can expand if we want. Once we start to get you making a fuck ton of money, we can hire out to get people to reuse your content so that it can be across all platforms.
